Please refer to the specific measurements for this item in the body of the description on this page.
The measurements we provide for the dress are the body measurements the dress will fit. Whirling Turban’s are not cut like standard modern off-the-rack dresses. They fit snugly and precisely, so please don’t buy the “approximate size” if you want to enjoy our signature, flattering, clinging fit. You need to know how to take your measurements.
HOW TO TAKE YOUR BASIC BODY MEASUREMENTS
BUST:
The circumference of your bust is not the same as your bra size! If you wear a 40D, that does not mean your full bust is 40.
Wearing a supportive bra, measure around your body with a dressmaker’s tape, across the apex of your bust in front and around your shoulder blades in back, keeping the tape level with the floor.
WAIST:
Don’t confuse this measurement with the “waist” of your pants or the “waist” of a garment, as designers use dropped waists, raised waists, etc. and they differ from garment to garment.
Your “natural waist” from a dressmaking standpoint is measured around your body directly under your bottom rib, with the top edge of the measuring tape “kissing” the bottom edge of your lowest rib.
It’s the smallest place in your middle and is much higher up on your body than most people think of when they picture the “waist” on modern garments.
“HIPS”:
You may think of a certain spot on your body as your “hips”. For Whirling Turban skirts, the “hips” is actually the widest point on your body below your waist. This may be at your “hips”, your thighs or your derriere. Put the measuring tape around your body and slide it up and down until you find the widest point “down there”. That is your hips measurement for a Whirling Turban garment.
We also provide a skirt length. This is the distance from your waist at the center back to the finished skirt length.
We provide the torso length when it is relevant if you are short, tall or have a long or short torso for your height. If there is no torso length, the garment may be flexible or it may be made in two pieces so that the torso length is adaptable.
Some of our garments have extra fabric hidden down the center back at the zipper so that you can have the garment altered to be a bit bigger. Some of our garments extra fabric length hidden at the bottom of the bodice in case you need to have it altered to extend the bodice length of you have a long torso or if you are tall.
Contact us if you need advice about the feasibility of altering a specific garment; we are happy to help, and strive to make our garments easy and inexpensive to alter whenever possible!
