Tips for Taking Your Basic Measurements

These measurements are for “basic” purposes, such as our ready-made, non-wedding Bombshell Dresses or as preliminary measurements for a wedding dress. Depending on the style you choose, if you are ordering custom, later we may need up to 16 measurements for which we have easy How-To videos.

You MUST wear the underwear you will wear under your dress while you take your measurements!

Do not pull the tape tight anywhere!!!! Do not "suck in".

Do not "add a finger" inside the measuring tape. Just be as accurate as possible.

Ours is already a snug fit. Do not buy a Whirling Turban too small, reasoning that you like your clothing tight, or that later you'll be wearing a girdle or waist cincher, etc. Wear the girdle or cincher to take or reconfirm your measurements if that is the case.

Most gals will find that if they measure themselves properly and then buy within the size description, a Whirling Turban will fit LIKE NO OTHER DRESS!

Bust and Underbust

Bust, Underbust, Midriff

BUST: Around your bust at widest point, as seen in diagram.

Your bra size is not the same as your bust measurement!

Please wear a bra with a classic shape for this measurement; not a push-up, a "half grapefruit"-shape molded foam cup, a wonderbra, a minimizer or an athletic bra.

Do not take the measurement braless.

Be sure the tape is level to the ground and not dropping down in the back.

UNDERBUST: Around your rib cage, just under your bust, as seen in diagram

MIDRIFF: Measured approximately half-way between the underbust and the waist.

Waist

Waist Tie

WAIST:
Of all the body measurements, most measurement mistakes occur because the true location of the "natural waist" is misjudged and is specified too high or too low.

Your waist measurement is not the same as your pants waist! Pants are virtually always worn a bit below your natural waist.

Your natural waist is found at the spot above the top of your hip bones and JUST below your bottom rib. It's well above your belly button.

Stick your fingers into your soft waist area and feel your hip bones and your bottom rib. Feel that space below your bottom rib and above your hip bone? That's your natural waist.

Height and Torso Length

Petite

This will generally fit gals 5' to 5'3”

(or 5’4”, if “short- waisted”; don't worry if you don't know what “short- waisted” means. If you don't know you probably aren't).

Average

The average American woman is 5’4", but this will generally also fit a woman up to about 5’7”, unless she is “long-waisted”.

Tall

This will generally fit gals 5'7" to 5'9" unless long- or short-waisted.

(Don't worry if you don't know what “short-or long-waisted” means. If you don't know you probably aren't).

X-Tall/Long-Waisted

This will generally fit gals over 5' 8" who are long-waisted, or very tall gals.

Hips

HIP MEASUREMENT: Your hips OR derriere OR thighs at widest point. Wherever the widest point is down there is the measurement we are after, whether it is 7 inches below your waist or 14 inches below your waist.

***You will know you have done this measurement correctly if the tape measure will go up and down freely from the point you have identified as "the widest point".
