SIZING INFORMATION

Crisp 100% cotton poplin with our very own hand-printed polka dot print with black dots on a deepish blue red, this set is punctuated with black contrast at the jacket cuffs and collar, inside the petals and at the hip tie. The skirt tie is functional and so can be cinched up or loosened a bit. The jacket has three-quarter sleeves with contrasting collar & cuffs.

The dress has a fully-boned Petal Bust bodice. The “petals” can be worn standing straight up or curling outward.

Wear it with the button-in, sweetheart, polka-dotted halter strap or the black halter strap; you’ll receive both. Or wear it strapless for a cocktail look. The structure insures it will cling and hold its shape.

The sarong skirt is universally flattering on all figures.

It will come as THREE PIECES: a separate skirt, a corselette with a full elastic back- boning in the back- fits like a dream and a clean back view without a zipper, plus the bolero. The detailed back of the corselette without a zipper takes the same amount of time to construct but we like the look of it better with the clean, boned back minus the “plumbing” of a zipper. We’ve found also that the two pieces are more likely to fit various figures more precisely because the skirt will naturally settle into your own natural waistline at just the right spot for you. Also you can wear the pieces separately with other pieces in your wardrobe!

One side of this lamé has a sheer layer of black on it that tones down the blinding shimmer. We have used that for the outside of the dress and used the “blinding shimmer” side inside the bust “petals”. We will send it to you with two button-in halter straps- one blinding and the other with the copper beneath the ultra thin sheer black layer. You can also wear it strapless.

This is made from two pieces enabling you to mix and match the skirt and corselette with other items in your wardrobe and so that the skirt will settle right into the correct spot on top of the corselette at your natural waist for a better fit.

Our bodice is highly constructed with boning from waist to tops of cups and more boning in the back for a snug, sleek fit.

The fabric is classic lame’ which is airy as opposed to the stretch, heavy-weight Lastex that has a similar shimmer but is much heavier. It’s not at all scratchy and is 100% classic old Hollywood cocktail style.

You can wear it with confidence up to the stated size. But you cannot wear it any larger at all- go up to the next size or it will be too hard on the fabric seams.

FULLY-lined, making this dress cool weather friendly. The bodice and sleeves have been lined with the same crepe. Why? You’ll see the difference in luxury that this has as the two layers of crepe drape identically, rather than having a fabric that drapes differently inside. The skirt has been lined with taffeta lining to help support the full skirt.

Flattering WIDE V-neck. Gravity defying sleeves that cling to the outermost edges of your shoulders due to a feat of couture engineering. Draping in the finest vintage tradition. SIZING INFORMATION

Bodice is is not your usual “quick sew” halter top. It’s beautifully-made, very detailed and boned for structure. The deep tucks under the bust also are there for structure and support and you should be able to wear this without a bra.

On the bottom of the playsuit are 40′s style pinup shorts with a loosish fit and a slight flare..

You certainly won’t look like anybody else in this glamorous Hollywood Starlet  playsuit.

Non- stretch, closely-fitting playsuits are a tricky fit so we are looking for the Cinderella who fits this.

This style must fit you precisely- please use a tape measure.

Have a look at the seam under the bust- do you have about that much space between your just under your bust and your natural waist (which is just under your bottom rib)?   Are you an average height- 5″4 to 5’7″ at the tallest?   Proportioned for a woman with an average torso length!   Do you have an average torso length, as far as you know?  Below the waist as well- pretty average for your height in terms of your crotch depth? If yes, you are in luck!   These are not available for ordering.

“I went so nuts seeing this first dress made up that I had to stock up on this  classic, vintage-type lamé  for which I have found a supplier here. (Could you have passed this fabric by, I ask you?  Talk about, “The Girl Can’t Help It“!)”

This is not a tough fabric; you’re going to have to be careful with it. The fabric is classic lame’ which is airy as opposed to the stretch, heavy weight Lurex that has a similar look but is much heavier. It’s not scratchy. It’s 100% pure vintage cocktail style. And REALLY sparkly. [Blinding.]

Pure white contrast inside petals and at top of bust. The most beautiful and heavily embroidered eyelet lace we’ve ever seen which we’ve hand-dyed to pure, intense yellow. Fully lined in white cotton so that the white lining peeks through the eyelets in the lace. Boned bodice and firm, detailed vintage construction.

The Peek-a-Boo dress with come- hither ties at center bust and hips and a *small* diamond-shaped keyhole at a very pretty place just below your bust, shaded like palms by the ties. Watch the guys try to discreetly assess the co-ordinates when you wear this dress! don’t be scared – it really doesn’t show very much – just enough to keep it interesting

Wide strap that ties behind the neck flatters by adding a diamond shape in the bust and shoulder area thereby making waist look smaller.

This fabric was designed and printed especially for Whirling Turban and is part of our new line of exclusive screen prints! This motif came from a 1940′s kimono. So are they pillows, candies, or firecrackers?

We have added a 100% cotton flannel interlining inside this jacket. So you have three layers- the outside of the jacket and the inside- both from our luscious, hand-woven cotton, plus a layer of warm 100% cotton flannel between the two. It’s detailed with a striped collar that can be worn down or turned-up and the notched cuffs feature a button covered in the striped fabric.

This is a three piece set that you can wear together or combine with other pieces of your wardrobe.

We have taken advantage of the couture detailing that we do best here and have cut and matched the stripes on the details with 100% symmetry. Look closely at the way they match at the center front of the bodice!

The corselette is boned from top to bottom in the front. It comes with two button-in sweetheart halter straps- one in stripes and one in the dress’s main color. Or wear it strapless for cocktails. The sleek back view has all elastic ruching so it remains snug with boning in the back as well and does not collapse or rumple. The channeled strips of boning in back also provide a couture corset reference.

The wrap sarong skirt is universally flattering on everyone with it’s diagonal drape and accent at the hip. It can be cinched up for an entrance or loosened a bit after dinner at the Mocambo Club.

We have this 100% cotton sharkskin fabric hand-woven locally to our specifications, including the stripes. It looks just like real vintage because it is made exactly like real vintage from the weaving technique to the fiber. This fabric has black fibers used in the lengthwise direction of the weave and colored fibers in the crosswise, creating an iridescent and a magically slimming effect. Shown here in Grape, you may also order it in any of our other sharkskin colors for the main body of the dress.

100% cotton “Jacks” exclusive Whirling Turban print… with a nod to Charles Eames who made an interior print very much like this. Hand-dyed and hand printed fabrics are richer looking, and the process we use is the same as one used during mid century.

Wear the “wings” up or down; wear it strapless or with strap. Wear the skirt with a fluffy, dressy crinoline or without for a more casual look. The dress has boned interior cups and lots of stretch so you get the best of three worlds; cling, support and comfort! This dress has more than 5 yards of fabric.

The color is a very rich, fifties lipstick red with no orange in it.

The fibers in this weave create an iridescent color with a shadowy edge that is magically slimming. We have taken advantage of the atelier couture detailing that allows us to do things factories cannot and have cut and matched the stripes on the details with 100% symmetry.

The corselette is boned from top to bottom in the front. It comes with two button-in sweetheart halter straps- one in stripes and one in the dress’s main color. Or wear it strapless for cocktails. The sleek back view has all elastic ruching so it remains snug -with boning in the back as well- so it does not collapse or rumple. The channeled strips of boning in back also provide a stylistic corset reference. This creates a  back view as beautiful as the front.

Whirling Turban’s truly have a Movie Star fit- clinging and structured just like quality vintage; nothing like a modern factory-made dress. While they look polished and expensive, they do cling, which is popular with the gents. The ladies wonder where you got them, and will often ask. The cling is engineered with elastic ruching, a vintage construction technique from the pre-lycra days. So they are deliciously comfortable too, but don’t “bunch” as do the “stitch 5 seams and you’re done” lycra stretch dresses. And they have old school couture boning and structure to hold everything flatteringly and firmly in place.

This corselette combined with a separate wrap sarong skirt and bolero looks like a dress and matching jacket but you can wear the skirt, top and bolero separately as well! The corselette and bolero are just the thing to wear with a fabulous vintage skirt.

This classic, curve-huggin’ sarong dress inspired by the 1956 style of the same name from the Golden Years of Frederick’s of Hollywood, and features a matching, collared bolero, just as the original did.

Until you’ve had one of our BUILT boned bodices and vintage-dressmaker-detailed dresses, you just can’t imagine what you’ve been missing. These are *nothing like* today’s factory-made, mass-produced vintage reproductions.

A word of caution, ladies: we take a lot of time to determine the exact body measurements so that every single Whirling Turban dress will fit. Please take the time to check your measurements with a tape measure and follow the stated sizes to the letter for a great fit. We leave extra fabric inside the dress so that a certain amount of alteration can be done.

Petal Bust bodice with our dreamy Waterfall Ruffle skirt. Sashays when you walk. Coral-pink contrast fabric at hip ties, inside petals and inside Waterfall skirt. The length of dresses made with the Waterfall Ruffle skirt are 28″ from waist to finished hem.

Our bodice is highly constructed with boning from waist to tops of cups with more boning in the back for a snug, sleek fit.

This is made from two pieces enabling you to mix and match the skirt and corselette with other items in your wardrobe. The skirt will settle right into the correct spot on top of the corselette at your natural waist for a beautiful fit.

The dramatic draped and tucked wide V wraps down to the shoulder blades at the top of the bodice back and ties in a flirtatious bow in back. A Waterfall Ruffle skirt  is tied with a functional hip. It sways to reveal the navy blue contrast inside the cascading ruffle. All 100% rayon.

Fully-boned bodice for unstoppable cling and the Whirling Turban Movie Star Fit. You will not find this kind of authenticity and  amount of sewn detail on a modern, factory-produced dress.  Whirling Turban’s are hand made, one by one, in a genuine couture studio. A dress like this takes a full week to make.

Made from a stunning rayon Hawaiian print we were so fortunate to find that looks absolutely like real vintage (and that is not the usual exaggeration we see everywhere nowadays describing things as “just like vintage” that are not at all like genuine vintage).  Contrasting details in solid color navy blue.  The design of the dress in back is as detailed and enchanting as the front so you’ll have your Flirt Factor clearly stated from 360 degrees!
